Saturday, April 26th, 2025, at 5:20 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Oregon. The requester, Rebecca G George, submitted the following information: “35 ft school bus got stuck in some mud moving out to property, need traction and a wench out. / I’m with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”
Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 30-mile radius.
From the group of contacted volunteers we had David West, a very active volunteer who marked himself as engaging right away and took care of this request.
They set the recovery for early the following morning at 7 a.m.

Here are some notes from David left in the lobby:
Alright, we’re working on a plan. They do have a pickup truck as well that isn’t stuck, so I can use that to anchor off of if need be. The debate right now is just whether we get then out tonight or first thing in the morning as I’m going to need to help them get their vehicle to their new property or figure out if it’s even possible tomorrow. I know the area very well and shoot real estate photography out there so I know all the routes to their new property and am going to help them scout everything out before they attempt to drive the bus again.
Yep, I’m meeting them about 7 am to get them out. We decided tomorrow morning is best since I’ll spend the next few hours helping them scout the routes to their property and getting them there if possible.
Got them out a couple hours ago. Have some service now so I wanted to let y’all know.
We want to express our gratitude to David for the excellent work and for being an active volunteer.
