Stuck in mud after sliding off the trail

Stuck in mud after sliding off the trail

Monday, November 11th, 2024, at 3:11 a.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in South Dakota. The requester, Evan Lynch, submitted the following information: “My truck is stuck on a small trail off of Denver St above Deadwood, SD . Slid off trail about 6 feet however became stuck in mud. The incident occurred yesterday Nov 10th at around 4pm. I walked out and got a ride back home where I live in Lead,SD. The vehicle is a 2008 Toyota Tundra, I am on my way with a friend to try and get it out manually and I’ll take pictures if we can’t get it out, If anyone is local and has an off road vehicle that would be better. I appreciate Any Help, Thank You / I’m with the vehicle

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 150-mile radius.

In this area, we have very few volunteers; after waiting a few hours for some of our members to engage, we shared the request with the organization Black Hills Off-Roaders, an awesome local organization that is very active in this area. Two members of this group responded and coordinated the recovery with Evan, the requester. The volunteers coordinating online were Bill Hess and Bryce Heying.

They teamed up and took care of the request. Later, Bill Hess sent us a quick note and some photos.

From Bill

I drove up to where the tundra was stuck to check it out, no one was around. Called the owner met up with him drove out to the site and hooked soft shackle to the truck put a tree saver and snatch block, ran winch rope to it started the pull and my jeep started to slide put it reverse pulled his truck out of the mud hole he slipped into. Been jeeping and off roading since 1985.

We want to thank all the volunteers who responded, and especially the guys from Black Hills who took care of this recovery. Bill and Bryce are now also members of the portal. Thank you guys!
