Monday, December 9th, 2024, at 10:33 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery near Klamath Falls, in Oregon. The requester, Jack Anderson, submitted the following information: “Hamacker Mountain Rd, Dodge Ram 3500. Was going to cell phone tower to service the communication equipment. I’m on the main road. Snow is not very deep. Good tracks all the way up. Just got off the tracks and got into deeper stuff in the middle of the road. Just need a winch pull to get back on the tracks. / I’m with the vehicle“
Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 20-mile radius.
In the first three minutes, Isaac Nunez took charge of the recovery, immediately reaching out to his local recovery crew. Isaac, an active member of our network and part of Klamath Falls Offroad Recovery, quickly got to work.
This recovery turned out to be a prolonged effort, extending into the early hours of the following day and even into the afternoon.
By 2:00 p.m., we received news that the team was finally making their way down the mountain. Later, Isaac shared an update along with a few photos: “Never underestimate the situation. When I started to pull, the vehicle sank 4 feet into the snow. I had to self-recover five times. Thoughts for next time: bring an extra winch line, one more soft shackle, and a tree hugger.”
We want to extend our gratitude to Isaac, who, as mentioned earlier, is incredibly active in this area. Stay tuned, as you’ll get to read about other recoveries where he played a key role. Awesome job, Isaac!
A big thank you also goes to Marc Estep, another highly dedicated volunteer from the Portal. Marc was on standby, ready to assist if needed, and consistently checked in throughout the day to ensure everything was under control.
As a reminder to our readers, our platform is open to everyone. We do not compete with local groups; in fact, we encourage local groups to utilize our system. We’ve built strong relationships with hundreds of organizations across all 50 states.
