Toyota Tacomas slid off into fairly deep snow drift

Thursday, March 13rd, 2025, at 8:55 a.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery near Rhododendron in Oregon. The requester, Brandyn Lagan, submitted the following information: “2004 (has a winch) and 2023 Toyota Tacomas slid off into fairly deep snow drift. Unable to wench out (cable not long enough), tried to dig out and unable to get out. Up forest road 1828 approximately 6-7 miles from the split. Both trucks are operable, just stuck in snow. / I’m not with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 20-mile radius.

Around 9 a.m., we heard back from a few volunteers, and Deirek Rasmor offered to help out that afternoon. By 3 p.m., he marked himself as engaged. At the time, he was near Rhododendron, OR—about 12 miles, or roughly 30 minutes, from the request.

By 7:30 p.m., once he regained service, Deirek updated the request as completed. He successfully recovered both vehicles.

We didn’t get many details from Deirek this time, but we’re grateful for his help and want to thank him—as well as all the volunteers who responded—for stepping up! (offroad recovery near Rhododendron)
