Monday, April 21st, 2025, at 5:16 p.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Arizona. The requester, Joshua C, submitted the following information: “Got a flat tire with no tools / I’m with the vehicle”
Our administrator, David Mrak, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 25-mile radius.
Within minutes of releasing the request to volunteers we had Tony Stephens taking over the request. David invited the requester over to our lobby so right away they started coordinating.
A few days later we received a quick note from Tony with a few photos we share below.
From Tony
Best tip I have is get some map program like OnX Offroad and get “offline” maps of the area. Import the pin and find a route and a backup if something goes wrong such as a wildfire. Also bro get more tools than you need. In this case it went from a spare tire change to hammering another rim to fix the leak on that tire to another one popping. I also care spare studs as they seem to break at the worst time. A simple change like this could have resulted in a broken stud but thankfully didn’t.

Good impact gun also makes it easier to remove the most stuck nuts without stressing the stud as much. It’s the tools that make the difference. Would love to see the app show the option to list the GMRS channel to use as when you get close it can help with locating the other person if cell service doesn’t work.

We want to thank Tony for helping in this recovery and also for the suggestions offered for our system. Awesome job.
