Sunday, November 16th, 2025, at 9:40 a.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Colorado. The requester, Justin Sierra, submitted the following information: “My tire is gone it got a gash on the side walls not fix able but need help getting my spare tire up to my jeep they picked us up last night so I’m not at the spot / I’m not with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”
Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 30-mile radius.
From the group of local contacted volunteers we had Curt Boyll marking himself as engaging and taking over the recovery. Curt was about 50+ miles away from the requester but willing to go.

By 3:20 p.m., the recovery was completed, Curt closed the request and later he sent us some photos and a description of the recovery.
Note from Curt
Saxon Mountain Road, Georgetown, Colorado November 16th, 2025. Request went out before 9 AM, volunteer responded about 10:30. Picked up Justin in downtown Denver, drove I-70 West to Idaho Springs and Georgetown.

Saxon Mtn Rd goes up from Georgetown (elev. 8,500 ft) up to a height of 11,500 feet. Justin’s nice Jeep was nearly at the top of the mountain at 10,850 feet. Temperature was 65 F in Georgetown, but only 45 F at the recovery site. We reached the disabled vehicle at about 1:40 PM. It took Justin less than 20 minutes to change his tire.
This road is Seven Miles of very rough and rugged shelf road. Trails Offroad states the road is rated 4.4/5 difficulty level. It was agreed that this needs to be revisited: Justin and other folks in another jeep, and myself all believe that the trail is a 5.5/6 difficulty level. It takes about two hours to drive the seven miles each way of this steep and rocky jeep trail. Some spots are quite sketchy and scary, with a steep drop off to Georgetown typically 2,500 feet below. We arrived back at the gas station in Georgetown at 4 PM.

While we were driving back down, there was suddenly another Jeep behind us. This was surprising, given the road certainly does not get better as you continue up. The couple driving this Jeep caught up with us at the gas station in town. They commented that it was amazing that my big full-size pickup could drive that road.
We want to express our gratitude to Curt for his exceptional work in recovering the system, despite the challenging communication environment.
