Thursday, November 14th, 2024, at 8:06 p.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Colorado. The requester, Avery, submitted the following information: “Entered old La Vera pass off 160 eastbound. It’s 1.5 miles from the other end now. Stuck in a snow bank and digging myself deeper and deeper. Enter La Veta Pass from the east side and proceed a few miles. Black Tacoma. No significant snow banks until my position. / I’m with the vehicle“
Our administrator, David Mrak, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within an 85-mile radius.
Among the volunteers contacted, even though most were located far from where the request was submitted, we saw an incredible response, with many stepping up to help or networking to find others nearby.
Avery, who had already been digging for the past three hours, managed to free himself while our volunteers were coordinating efforts.
We still want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who responded to the call. Your willingness to help means the world to us. (offroad recovery in Colorado)
In this particular zone, we still need to grow the number of volunteers; if you would like to receive a text message when we get a request near you, create your account here: offroadportal.org/signup
