Rear wheel is almost hanging off the edge

Monday, November 11th, 2024, at 9:56 p.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Colorado. The requester, Ricky Rogers, submitted the following information: “1993 GMC Yukon 4×4 passenger rear wheel is almost hanging off the edge of the road in foot-deep snow, can’t get traction. Boreas pass road like 10 miles from Breckenridge / I’m with the vehicle”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 45-mile radius.

We had a few volunteers responding to the call for help. They checked the spot where this vehicle was stuck, and it seemed it was behind a road closed sign, but the requester never saw it.

Although he had a few volunteers available, possibly later in the evening, the requester was able to find a friend to go and try to get the vehicle out. They kept us informed, and around 11:00 p.m., we closed the ticket once the requester informed us they got it out safely.

The requester was very appreciative of our efforts, and although this time we couldn’t help, he took the time to send us the following note: “It’s okay now, my buddies and we’re hiking back up and ran into someone with a winch coming back down the mountain. Took us 4 tries to get it out but all is good now. Thank you for all the help, it is nice knowing there is a volunteer group out there for these kind of situations, it was first time attempting something like this so I’ll be smarter about off roaring like this now.
