Rivian Out of Commission

Rivian Out of Commission

Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 4:17 p.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Arizona. The requester, Hans Huyer, submitted the following information: “It is a Rivian R1’s. The steering rod to the right front wheel is broken. The way to get here: tuthill to just past the trucking co. Turn right towards the gravel pit. Just past the scale on the left turn left onto a wide gravel road. A hundred yards turn right onto dirt and left around the pole onto the dirt road. It will lead you across a dry riverbed and the around over a haul road. Straight until you get to a road ( trail) to the right up a hill go up and over the hill and you will see me. / I’m with the vehicle

Our administrator, Rick Cooper, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 25-mile radius.

This was a particular request; initially, Hans requested somebody to bring a part to try and repair the Rivian on the trail. We found one volunteer, David Kupitz, who was willing to get the part and drive it to Hanz.

While Rick was checking with Hans to make sure he didn’t need a mechanic, David started putting together some tools while getting ready to head over to Hans.

We also had Gabe Johnson with a deck car trailer, and willing to help.

A few minutes later, Rick updated our lobby; he spoke with Hans: “Just talked with Hans. He needs an actual wrecker to come and retrieve the truck. I’m going to cancel the request for assistance. Thank you everyone!”

We still want to thank the volunteers who responded, and especially those who were willing to make the trip to help Hans. You guys are amazing. (offroad recovery in Arizona)
