RV died

Friday, October 10th, 2025, at 2:20 p.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Arizona. The requester, Bryan Chandler, submitted the following information: “Off-road quarter mile off of I-17 north of Phoenix. Badger Springs Road exit. RV died. Phone almost dead. Need battery jump. Disabled wife almost out of water. Friend who was supposed to pick us up so we could grab my car from Prescott bailed because we were running late due to RV troubles. I can hold sign up on freeway for help, but if any of your people are in the area and can help jump my RV so I can move it to civilization while I figure out how to get back to my car, that would be amazing. / I’m with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 40-mile radius.

From the group of contacted volunteers, Tony Stephens took charge of the recovery. He marked himself as engaged and attempted to reach out to the requester to coordinate. Unfortunately, the requester’s phone battery had run out, preventing Tony from making contact. Despite this setback, Tony decided to drive approximately 80 miles to assist, even though he couldn’t confirm the requester’s whereabouts.

By the time Tony arrived, the requester had already left. We later learned that the requester couldn’t contact us to update us, but he managed to restart the RV.

Tony, as mentioned to us, prefers to drive the distance and find someone in need rather than keep waiting and not being able to help. We want to express our gratitude to Tony for his unwavering dedication to helping others. His actions are truly admirable.
