Delica stuck in soft sandy ground

Delica stuck in soft sandy ground

Friday, November 29th, 2024, at 7:53 a.m. (CT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Louisiana. The requester, Matt Norman, submitted the following information: “3 of 4 wheels are stuck in mud, one still one sand. Need a pull backwards then I’ll be good under my own power. / I’m with the vehicle

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 75-mile radius.

By 9:40 a.m., Keith Tienken marked himself as engaging with the recovery, and a few minutes later, Greg Boben joined him. Both were approximately 80 miles away from the request and drove two hours each way to assist with the recovery as a team.

A few days later, they shared quick updates:

From Keith: “Greg took a couple of pictures. After 20 miles of beach, we found Matt. I lined up and hooked my 30-foot YankEm rope. After four hits, Matt was free. We all drove the 20 miles back to the pavement, aired up, and headed home.”

From Greg: “Nothing special. The guy was waaaaay down the beach, and we could see where he was almost stuck two other times. He didn’t air down either.”

By 2:00 p.m., the request was closed—the vehicle had been successfully recovered.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Keith and Greg for their incredible sacrifice and dedication to helping a stranger. Their effort is a shining example of selflessness and the true spirit of voluntarism with this offroad recovery in Louisiana.

In places like Louisiana, we still need to find more volunteers; if you would like to receive a text message when we get a request near you, create your account here: offroadportal.org/signup
