Saturday, December 09, 2023, at 10:59 a.m. (ET), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Kentucky. The requester, Wyatt Klaber, submitted the following information: “High center 2015 Chevy 2500 hd / I’m with the vehicle”.
David Mrak, our administrator for the region, managed the request. It was submitted to local volunteers just a few minutes after receiving it. The requester was also invited to the lobby. After about 45 minutes, Wyatt was able to find help from a friend. David also offered to travel if he couldn’t get the vehicle free.
We want to thank every volunteer who responded to our invitation to this recovery. We know they were far away. Here is a map of this Offroad recovery in Kentucky showing where our volunteers, compared to the location of the incident.
This clearly shows we need more volunteers in this beautiful area.

The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is a beautiful and rugged area located on the border of Tennessee and Kentucky. The region offers a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and horseback riding. However, please note that off-roading is generally not permitted within national parks and recreation areas to protect the natural environment.
If you are interested in off-roading, you may want to explore nearby off-road parks or trails that are designated for such activities. Always check for the latest regulations and guidelines, as they can change, and it’s essential to respect the rules in place to preserve the natural beauty of the area and ensure safety.
Here are a few general tips:
- Contact Local Authorities: Check with the local ranger station or park headquarters for information on off-road trails or areas where such activities may be permitted.
- Off-Road Parks: Look for off-road parks or designated off-road areas near the Big South Fork region. Off-road parks often provide trails specifically designed for various types of off-road vehicles.
- Local Off-Roading Clubs: Local off-roading clubs or enthusiasts might have valuable information about legal and enjoyable off-roading opportunities in the area.
