Slid into a ditch

Slid into a ditch

Sunday, May 10th, 2026, at 11:29 p.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Arizona. The requester, Colten G Hays, submitted the following information: “Slid into a ditch. 3 wheeling right now and scared I may tip if I dont have someone pull from behind. / I’m with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 20-mile radius.

We promptly submitted the request after receiving it. It was quite late on a Sunday, but within minutes, a few volunteers offered their assistance. Among those who responded, one individual took charge and diligently followed through with the request. Nathan Kloos, an active volunteer in this area, was approximately 45 miles away from the request but immediately sprang into action, marking himself as engaged and informing us that he was on his way.

Nathan took care of it and close the request past midnight. He later sent us a quick note a few days later.

From Nathan

I didn’t manage to take any photos. I intended to, but it was quite late and dark.

He was trying to turn around, and the road was pretty washed out. Like usual, the pictures didn’t do it justice, and he was absolutely right to ask for help. I winched him out pretty quickly and followed him back out to the trailhead. Nothing was broken, and no one was hurt, so I’m putting it in the win column.

We want to thank Nathan for taking care of this request so late at night. Awesome job.
