Monday, March 30th, 2026, at 8:36 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Washington. The requester, Jerry Hussey, submitted the following information: “Front wheel drive. front wheels stuck in the sand. New van driver. No rush. / I’m with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”
Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 40-mile radius.
The beauty of the Offroad Portal isn’t just the gear or the rigs; it’s the network of people who drop what they’re doing to help a fellow driver in need.
We recently received a call from a new van driver, Jerry Hussey, who found his front-wheel-drive vehicle firmly planted in the sand out in the Washington wilderness. While he was safe and in no immediate rush, he was stuck—and that’s where our community stepped in.
The Mission: As soon as the alert went out, our volunteers sprang into action. Despite being 60 miles out and feeling under the weather, William Maurer kept a watchful eye on the situation, while Brian Greenaway—well-equipped with a TJ on 35s—stepped up to bridge the gap from 20 miles away.
When Brian hit a snag with his own equipment, he didn’t just walk away; he leveraged his local network, coordinating with his experienced friend, Jay, to ensure Jerry wouldn’t be left behind.

The Resolution: After we verified the location and managed the logistics through our lobby, Ray reached the scene and successfully pulled the van from the sand. At 6:21 p.m., the confirmation came through: Jerry is back on the road.
A huge thank you to everyone involved—from the quick coordination in the lobby to the hands-on effort in the field. This is the heart of what we do at Offroad Portal: ensuring that when someone gets stuck, they aren’t stuck for long.
