Saturday, May 18th, 2024, at 7:08 p.m. (ET), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Maine. The requester, Stephen Conley, submitted the following information: “I have a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. The passenger side wheels dropped off the road into a washout the truck is teetering on its axles. I am between upper Kilgore pond and the dead river. From Long Falls Dam Road in Carrabassett turn right on Carrying Pl., Road then turn left on N. Bowtown Rd. From there navigate your way to my coordinates. / I’m not with the vehicle.”
David Mrak one of our general administrators contacted the requester, verified the information submitted, including the GPS coordinates and situation before sending the request to local volunteers within a pretty large 75-mile radius.
From the group of contacted volunteers, one jumped into action, Benjamin Jenkins who also is a member of Penobscot county offroad rescue and recovery. He contacted the requester and help them by sharing a method to get unstuck themselves.
Later the requester shared this note with us: “Thank you so much for helping me. Try to find somebody to recover my truck. I went up there today with my dad and brother and we were able to drag it out with a few come along some toe straps and a jack. I didn’t think we’d be able to get them well I was amazed how well that method worked.“
Benjamin, didn’t do the recovery himself, but took the time to share his knowledge and that was amazing. He also later sent us a quick note: “I wasn’t the one to recover them, they went out with come along and straps. I gave them a bunch of advice and tips on how to recover the vehicle. They did just that with no issues, they now have a entire set up to be able to recover them selves in the woods!! Great group of people though.“
