Heavy truck about to roll

Heavy truck about to roll

Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 6:22 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in California. The requester, Luis Meza, submitted the following information: “1979 Chevy Cheyenne flatbed stuck on the side of the hill. I am about to roll over and need help as soon as possible. Its RWD 5speed location is right off Highway 79 near Rancho California RV resort. / I’m with the vehicle.

We reached out to Luis, and once everything was checked out by 6:20 p.m., we submitted the request to local volunteers.

We invited the requester to our lobby to make it easier to coordinate with our volunteers. By 7:12 p.m., we had two volunteers taking over the recovery and coordinating efforts: Nick Johnson & Shawn Trento.

The recovery was completed at 1:20 a.m. At the end of each recovery, we always ask the volunteers to share with us photos, tips, and notes. Here are some tips and notes from Nick and Shawn.

Tip from Nick:

I didn’t get any additional pictures because it was pitch-black when I arrived.

The only tips or tricks I can give is to take your time and discuss multiple plans to determine the most effective and, most importantly, the safest way to extract the vehicle. If you aren’t confident in the plan and/or your skill level for the situation, you need to have the humility/bravery to admit that to avoid damage or injury.

Shawn was an immense help and the only reason we got the truck out. A valuable member to this team for sure.
