Dirt road is muddy after the rain and snow

Saturday, April 19th, 2025, at 5:29 p.m. (MT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Arizona. The requester, Stacey Robinson, submitted the following information: “I’m just outside Williams, AZ north of I 40 on 116 A (Garland Prairie Rd) off of 71, east of 64 and Kaibab Lake. Dirt road is muddy after the rain and snow. I have a 2014 Sprinter, rear wheel drive / I’m with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 55-mile radius.

We contacted about a dozen local volunteers, and in less than 30 minutes, we had John Scott, and administrator for Offroad Portal in Arizona jumping into action.

By 5 p.m. the ticket was closed and later we had a few photos and a note from John about this recovery.

From John

On 04/19/25, we received a recovery request north of Williams. The person had been camping for a few days in the forest. There had been a snowstorm the night before, which quickly melted the following morning. When they attempted to leave their camp spot, they became stuck in the thick mud. Recovery was quick, using J hooks and a kinetic rope.
