A full-sized truck that can be ordered to fit any budget and lifestyle, from basic pickup to off-road ready adventure vehicle. If you ask truck buyers to list all the full-size trucks, they sometimes forget the Nissan Titan. This truck has long been overshadowed by the American makes and Toyota.
That’s unfortunate because Nissan provides a great affordable option with the Titan, and more buyers should take the time for a test drive.
Nissan equips the Titan with its reliable 5.6-liter V8 engine, which is good for 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque. Then you get a seven-speed automatic transmission, class IV tow hitch, and optional integrated trailer brake controller. That allows the Titan to tow up to 9,660 pounds. The Titan will also carry up to 1,850 pounds in the bed. If you want 4X4, the Titan comes with a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system with high and low-range gears.
One of the great things about the Titan is that you can still get it in a traditional truck format with a single cab or a crew cab if you prefer those styles.
When it comes to safety, Nissan gives the Titan a competitive set of features. It starts with disc brakes on all four wheels. Being able to stop effectively is critical, especially when the truck is loaded or pulling a trailer. The Titan also comes with traction and stability controls, active brake limited slip technology, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Higher trims add in features like a blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alerts.
If you plan to go off-road, consider the Titan with the PRO-4X trim. Our test truck had this package, and it includes hard parts like Bilstein monotube shock absorbers, electronic locking rear differential, tow hooks, and skid plates under the truck. But the PRO-4X also includes software features like hill start assist and hill descent control.
If you expect a truck like that to be primitive, think again. The PRO-4X Titan is also available with heated and ventilated leather seats, heated steering wheel, 360-degree around-view monitor, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, satellite radio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and even voice recognition.
One last reason to consider the Titan is its warranty. With five years or 100,000 miles of bumper to bumper coverage, this truck has the best warranty on the market.
As tested, the 2019 Nissan Titan with PRO-4X and a crew cab carried a base price of $46,710, and with a stack of options the bottom line was $54,290. But you can definitely find a Titan that’s well within any budget.
