Towing won’t come out here

Towing won’t come out here

We received this recovery story a while back from Kansas, submitted by one of our volunteers, Ken Doll. Recovery in Dover, Kansas.  Carlson Road (old low-maintenance road)

A friend of ours wanted to test his NEW 4 runner on some off road sections.  We were fine until we came upon some mud and he slid off.  After using his recovery boards one shot out and went through the air dam under his front bumper.   This is where I took one for the team and climbed in the mud to hand dig around his shinny new bumper.

Once we could move the 4 inner forward about 6 inches.  We used a snach block to pull 90 degrees to remove the recovery board from under the vehicle allowing us to pull it backward and not rip off the bumper by showing the recovery board forward.

Once we pulled him backward we continued to to back him out of the road until we could get him turned around and go have tacos.  This recovery ended up being about 3 hours start to finish.  We tried recovery boards for a good part of it before we had to tow.

This version of 4 runner didn’t have a tow point easily accessible from the front that would not comprise the bumper. At one point they said, “ We have AAA”. I smiled and said we are AAA they won’t come out here.

We want to thank Ken for sharing this story, and also invite anybody in this area who might want to join our volunteers. To receive a text message when we get a request near you, create your account here: https://offroadportal.org/signup
