1994 Delica L400 rolled off the road

Thursday, May 9th, 2024, at 6:02 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Oregon. The requester, Dave Knip, submitted the following information: “Highway 97 4 miles outside of Chemult. 1994 Delica L400 4×4. Blew a tire and sent me and my trailer off the road and I rolled. Vehicle is right side up. I have two spares for the left side that came off the beads. Got the front tire swapped, working on the back. I’m in deep cinders and have begun digging. I’ve got the gall to see that part through. The engine is running no runaway diesel, and the transmission is engaging, but haven’t tried to move it yet. A winch out of the trees and cinders is probably needed. I don’t need a tow / I’m with the vehicle.

We contacted Dave, verified the GPS location and situation, and then proceeded to explain to him that we don’t do towing services. His vehicle had rolled, and we initially thought he was asking us to get him back to the city. In reality, Dave only needed to be pulled out of some tree roots on which his vehicle was stuck.

Responding to the need for assistance, Levi, a local volunteer, communicated his availability: “I can be down there in about 45 minutes to an hour. I need to warm up Sandy and finish dinner. I am 31 miles away”. His response exemplifies the spirit of community and the readiness to assist those in need, reflecting the strength and dependability of local volunteer networks.

By 8:19 p.m., Levi finished the recovery, he then helped Dave get the tire installed properly.

We want to thank Levi for helping with this offroad recovery in Oregon. Awesome job.
