Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, at 9:03 p.m. (CT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Kansas. The requester, Keeri Sun, submitted the following information: “180th and Indigo Rd. White Chevy Sedan Front wheel drive. No damage. It’s a muddy, slick road. We are stuck in a ditch. 200 yards from solid pavement. Attempted winch recovery, no success. Request an additional rig with a winch and possibly anchoring vehicles. / I’m with the vehicle“
Our administrator, David Mrak, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 125-mile radius.
Almost immediately after David submitted the request to volunteers, we had Ethan Matt willing to go help after church.
David coordinated with both the requester and Ethan, who was getting ready at noon. A passerby stopped and offered help. This person went home to get his recovery gear to come back and attempt the recovery.
David asked Ethan to be on standby just in case they couldn’t get the vehicle back on the road.
An hour later, the request was closed, and they were recovered. We still want to thank Ethan, who was willing to drive 160 miles each way to help a complete stranger. What a fantastic display of voluntarism. (offroad recovery in Kansas)
