Suburban on 33s stuck in 3 feet of snow

Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, at 8:12 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Oregon. The requester, Isaac P Nickerson, submitted the following information: “4wd chevy suburban on 33s. Truck is stuck in about 3 feet of snow in the tillamook forest about 6 miles up cedar creek road. The snow is extreme and the truck is partly off the road on an uphill incline about 30 ft from level ground. / I’m not with the vehicle.”

We contacted Isaac a few minutes after receiving the request. Since they had already left the vehicle behind, we set to start looking for volunteers in the morning.

By 7:40 a.m., when the request was released to volunteers, we had two volunteers coordinating to attempt a recovery on Monday: Seth Scholbrock and Nicolas Barnett. Later in the afternoon, Nicolas realized he didn’t have enough clearance to make it up to where the vehicle was stuck, so Seth by himself was a no-go. The attempt was canceled for the day.

The following day, Isaac contacted us and told us he had a friend with a large truck helping him the next day. So, we closed the request on Tuesday. Later the same week, on Friday, Issac contacted us again. His friend didn’t make it, and he still needed help. So, we reactivated the request.

Seth again offered help and announced he had a group of Jeeps going up to Browns Camp, and he offered to help on Saturday. In the afternoon of Saturday, we got information back from Isaac. Although Seth didn’t make it all the way up, at least he made it close enough to where Isaac continued walking uphill with chains, managed to install the chains on the Suburban, and drove it back down safely.

We want to thank Seth for helping and also all the other volunteers who responded to the invitation and helped in any way. Thank you! (offroad recovery in Oregon)
