Car Tumbles Off the Road

Saturday, January 06, 2024, at 4:43 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Oregon submitted by Jakob Aitken. He shared the location of the vehicle, a photo, and a brief description: “Vehicle tipped on the side At Goat Mountain in Colton Oregon / I’m with the vehicle.”

We reached out to Jakob by 5:06 p.m. and verified his GPS location, information, and situation. By 5:13 p.m., the ticket was submitted to local volunteers. By 5:49 p.m., we had Shane Bails, and by 5:56 p.m., we had John Lepley, both local volunteers teaming up to help recover the vehicle.

The recovery was completed by 8:00 p.m., and later, John sent us two photos and a brief note: “I didn’t take many photos as we focused on the recovery, but it went smoothly. The vehicle was in decent shape for going over. It was an uphill corner, roughly a 35* road, and the vehicle was on its passenger side. The lid came up pretty quick and fired up after pulling plugs it left under its own power.

We also got a note from Shane Bails: “The portal worked great both text and voice. The Portal was accurate and spot-on. I talked with the owner, met them at the local market with their belongings, and we went into the woods. I got it back on all four wheels, but it was still unstable, so we had another truck stop by, and we had him strap to the rear of the vehicle and pull slowly as I crept tension and pulled back up towards the road while the other truck was pulling it away towards road. It turned out to be a good time by all; they even drove it home.

We thank both volunteers for taking care of this recovery so quickly. Awesome job. (offroad recovery in Oregon)
