He put a wetsuit on to attach the winch line around the axle

Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 9:03 a.m. (ET), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Connecticut. The requester, Dan, submitted the following information: “Broke my u joint
Up to seats in water / Mbr is not with the vehicle. Coordinates are to his house, 1/4 mile up the road from where Jeep is stuck.

The request was managed by Brandon Brooks, one of our general administrators for Offroad Portal. He reached out to Dan and confirmed the situation, location, and contact information.

Photo submitted by Dan. The vehicle was stuck from the previous night.

Brandon initially invited volunteers within a 40-mile radius. Later expanded to 45 mile-radius.

By 9:15 a.m. he got the lobby active with a bunch of local volunteers. In the morning, most of the responding volunteers were at work. But at 2:10 p.m. we connected with Nicholas Whiteway, a volunteer 12 milea away, who took over the recovery. He traveled to meet with the requester. He had a 12k winch and was willing to try and recover the vehicle.

By 4:40 p.m., Nicholas updated us on our lobby, letting us know he got Dan out and got him home safely with the vehicle. He later sent us a quick note and a few photos.

Nicholas note:

That’s the broken driveshaft. He had no front driveshaft in either so only 2wd after I drove him home to grab another driveshaft. He put a wetsuit on to attach the winch line around the axle to pull it out too. Was a fun one!
