Broken down in a trail

Broken down in a trail

Sunday, September 15th, 2024, at 8:38 a.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in California. The requester, Anthony James, submitted the following information: “We have a JT with a Dynatrac 60 with a broken draglink. We have removed the broken draglink, but need a replacement.
We are at Ershim Lake Campground #1. I’m currently on Starlink, so I might not have service for too long. / I’m with the vehicle.

We started working with Anthony immediately after receiving the request; we verified the GPS location and situation before we started looking for volunteers within a 50-mile radius.

This recovery was a bit complicated; they had no cell service except for a sporadic Starlink connection. So, we had to make sure to set schedule times for updates. We also started looking for local groups or organizations who can team up to help.

The requester stayed overnight with some of the vehicles up on the trail; the rest of the jeeps came down. The following day, snow was expected, so there was a sense of urgency to get the vehicle repaired and down.

The next day, the part was acquired by Rich, and he requested somebody to drive up the trail with him. Several members from our system who also belonged to local groups found help to bring the piece up.

For sure, it was a team effort. The requester was ridiging with a group of friends from JeepCNX.

Tyler, by 11:00 p.m., shared: “The repair is completed. They are camping tonight and headed off the trail in the morning.”

From the volunteers in our lobby, we want to thank Christian Vazquez, David Signorelli, and Tyler Vancerwell, who coordinated efforts with other groups and kept us informed of the progress.

The request was closed the following day once the vehicle was back down. (offroad recovery in California)
