Friday, October 11st, 2024, at 5:50 p.m. (ET), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Florida. The requester, Andrew Haskell, submitted the following information: “Utility Truck stuck in Okechobee. We’re out here doing damage assessment after hurricane Milton and we’ve gotten ourselves stuck really good in a utility easement behind some mobile homes. Could use a helping hand so we can continue to help the people of Okechobee. We’re in a 4×4 Ram 1500 with road tires. 17512 Broadwing Ln, Okeechobee, FL 34974 27.2395142, -81.0117486 / I’m with the vehicle“
Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 70-mile radius.
This request was received the day after Hurricane Milton hit Florida. The roads were pretty treacherous, and the area had issues getting fuel. We shared the request and had a few volunteers responding, trying to figure out how to help. Nobody was very close to the area, and the ones who were close couldn’t offer any help.
We stayed in contact with the crew, and fortunately within the hour the company was able to send them a tractor to pull them out.
We still want to thank all the volunteers who participated and responded to the call. (offroad recovery in Florida / Hurrican Milton)
