EV slipped off a rough cut road

Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, at 7:53 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in California. The requester, John Tarantino, submitted the following information: “Rural road off of Lazy Ln in Fort Jones, CA. Car is rear wheel drive, blue Hyundai Ionic 5. The car slipped off a rough cut road…it’s slanted down a bit, stuck in mud. Nearest rocked/stable road is just 15-20 ft away. I got a ride a home from family. If someone can work with me to set up a time that would be amazing. Thank you in advance. / I’m with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 30-mile radius. Although the request came at night, the requester asked to get this activated in the morning, to make it easier for volunteers to work with daylight.

In the morning, from the group of volunteers we contacted, we got Corey McNulty taking over the recovery, marking himself as engaging and jumping into action after contacting the requester to coordinate. Corey was about 60 miles from the recovery.

The recovery was done without any issues. by 11:00 a.m., Corey closed the request in our lobby and confirmed everything went well. We want to thank Corey, who is a very active volunteer in this area.
