Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, at 10:24 p.m. (ET), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in North Carolina. The requester, Howard Becker, submitted the following information: “Trail on Mott Lake, vehicle is fine, 4×4, stuck in mud. Trail is mostly sand and all mud can be avoided or easily driven through / I’m with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”
Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 50-mile radius.
Huge shoutout to our volunteer, Morgan Roberts, for stepping up late last night to help Howard out of a tough spot!
When the initial call for help went out around 10:25 PM, we asked for anyone who could assist immediately or stand by for the following morning. Morgan initially offered to help the next day, but quickly decided to throw on his wheel spacers and head out right then and there.
After some quick coordination through the system to get Howard’s contact info and mark his status as engaging, Morgan deployed. By 12:11 PM the following day, we got the official word: Recovery complete.
Morgan is a pretty active volunteer in this area, and has assisted in quite a few recoveries with us.
