Sunday, April 7th, 2024, at 10:56 p.m. (ET), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Georgia. The requester, Alek Gavrilovski, submitted the following information: “Stuck in mud, vehicle sank in mud with rear overhang on semi-solid ground but wheels completely in mud. The surrounding area is dry, so a direct pull should be possible. I am looking for help this evening on Monday, April 8th. / I’m not with the vehicle.“
We verified the information, GPS coordinates, and situation before sending it to local volunteers within a 30-mile radius. The ticket was sent out at 11:22 p.m., and by 11:27 p.m., Chandler Davidson had taken over the recovery.
We also invited the Requester to our lobby (chat room) to help coordinate with volunteers. The recovery was set for the following day at 5:00 p.m.
The following day, by 6:00 p.m., Chandler updated our lobby with a quick note: “He is out”. Just like that, the recovery was closed.

I got the message Sunday evening right before bed. I got a plan put together with the requester for the next afternoon after work. I knew the area well and knew he wasn’t in a place he should’ve been, so I verified we had permission to retrieve the vehicle, and we headed out to the recovery site. I got him out pretty quickly with a single line and two good wheel chalks under my truck to keep it from sliding. After we got back to the main road, I shared information with him about treading lightly principles as well as other rules and regulations that are good to follow when exploring public lands.
