GMC revives the Hummer as an electric vehicle

According to GMC, the Hummer EV will offer 1,000 horsepower and an unprecedented 11,500 pound-feet of torque from its electric drivetrain.

GMC has announced plans to revive the Hummer nameplate, but the new vehicle represents a radical departure from the Hummers of the 1990s and 2000s. Where the old Hummers were traditional gas-powered SUVs, the new Hummer will be all-electric.

According to GMC, the Hummer EV will offer 1,000 horspower and an unprecedented 11,500 pound-feet of torque from its electric drivetrain. GMC also stated that the SUV will accelerate from zero to sixty in three seconds, which would place it among the quickest vehicles on the road today.

“GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC Hummer EV takes this to new heights,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC.

The GMC HUMMER EV will be revealed on May 20, 2020 and built in Michigan at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. First customer deliveries are expected in the fall of 2021.

A 30-second TV advertisement for the Hummer EV is scheduled to air during the second quarter of the Super Bowl this weekend. The spot highlights the anticipated performance, reduced noise, and zero emissions nature of the SUV.
