Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Parkdale, Oregon. The requester, Albert Medina, submitted the following information: “I have a GMC Sierra stuck in deep snow, it’s pretty icy out there too. 3000 feet elevation. / I’m not with the vehicle.“
Our administrator, David Mrak, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 25-mile radius.
From the group of contacted volunteers, Deirek Rasmor and Anthony Swartz immediately coordinated and took action to assist Albert.
We didn’t get any photos, but we’re sharing a quick note from Deirek below.
From Deirek
The recovery went well. He was stuck exactly where he said he was. After some shoveling—since the truck was sunk into hardened snow and ice—I attached a kinetic rope to the rear bumper and pulled the vehicle out backward. Once freed from the ice, it was able to drive unassisted.
My main recommendation is for people to explore in pairs. They mentioned a seven-mile hike yesterday afternoon, and temperatures were in the teens.
I’m here to assist whenever and wherever I can around Mt. Hood.
We would like to thank the dedicated volunteers, Deirek and Anthony, for their excellent work.
