Stuck in mud at blue lake

Stuck in mud at blue lake

Friday, May 16th, 2025, at 9:16 p.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Nevada. The requester, Jordan Trammell, submitted the following information: “My truck got stuck in mud at blue lake need help getting it out of mud / I’m with the vehicle”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 110-mile radius.

Since we didn’t have many volunteers nearby, and based on the local volunteers we contacted, Skyler Smith, who was about 150 miles away, took over the request.

Skyler was available in the morning, so we contacted Jordan to let him know we had help coming in the morning. Once all was coordinated, we reached out in the morning to coordinate and a few minutes later Skyler was en route.

Skyler left a phrase in our lobby we love “I live for this crap lol”

The request was completed around 11:30 a.m. and a few days later we got a full update from Skyler with photos we share down below.

From Skyler

It was just after 9:00 PM on the 16th when I got the first alert about a possible recovery. Someone was stuck out in the desert, but despite several attempts, no one could get in touch with them in time to head out that night.

The next morning, I finally heard back. The stuck individual, Jordan, responded and let me know where he was and what he was dealing with. He sent over a pin, gave the vehicle type — a Nissan pickup — and explained that he’d been stuck for two days. He said he was only about 30 feet from hard-packed ground, which gave me hope that the recovery wouldn’t be too difficult… but after two days in the mud, you never really know what you’re walking into.

I packed up my Bronco and hit the road. It was a solid two-hour drive west from my home in Lake Point, Utah, into the Nevada desert, just south of Wendover.

When I finally rolled up near Blue Lake, I spotted Jordan’s Nissan sitting right where he’d said — sunk into mud, not going anywhere. The ground around the truck looked like a sponge. After sitting in that spot for two days I was assuming a good amount of suction from the mud. My first instinct was to winch him out, but when I went to spool out the winch, it wouldn’t engage. Figures.

Luckily, I had my Yankum rope with me. We hooked it up, and after a couple of solid tugs, the mud finally let go. The Nissan came free and rolled back onto firm ground. You could see the relief on Jordan’s face immediately — and honestly, that’s the best part of doing these recoveries.

No one likes being stuck, especially in the middle of nowhere. But with a good pin, a solid plan, and the right gear, we got him out and headed home, but no before hitting the Blackjack table for an hour or so 😜😜

Cheers
Skyler

We want to thank Skyler for such great job and also for taking the time to write up a good story to share here. Awesome job.

As you can see our volunteers in some areas are pretty far away, If you would like to receive a text message when we get a request near you, create your account here: offroadportal.org/signup
