Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at 6:21 p.m. (CT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Illinois. The requester, Taylor Dixson, submitted the following information: “2022 Toyota 4Runner stuck in a mud pit on FSR 1454 Eagle Mountain Bluff Trail in Shawnee NF. Coordinates 37.6608012, -88.4290315 / I’m with the vehicle“
Our general administrator, David Mrak, handled this request, contacting the requester to confirm their GPS location and current situation before sending the ticket to local volunteers within a 70-mile radius.
We do not have many volunteers near this area, but regardless, by expanding the search to 70 miles, David found 16 volunteers. Of those invited, 11 responded to the request. It was pretty late in the evening when we received the request; the ticket was in volunteer hands by 6:33 p.m., and by 8:00 p.m., we had David Wilson offering help in the morning. He had his six grandchildren with him, but he was available the next morning. Luckily, Taylor found help soon after 8:00 p.m.
We still want to thank David for offering to help; he was 3 hours away and willing to go! Thats remarkable.
