At 11 a.m., on Sunday, Ronald submitted a recovery request. He got stranded eight miles south on NF 17, off-highway 380. 4 miles east of Post. Oregon. He was driving a Ford F350 4×4 XLT maroon.
He ended up stuck in a ditch with two wheels on NF 17, aiming downhill in two or more feet of snow and ice.
By 11:13 a.m. I updated the location on the request based on the details provided by Ronald. He informed me that he walked down to an area where he had a cellphone reception and a fire to stay warm.
Four minutes after we had invited around 28 volunteers, Chuck Williams was the first to offer help. He was coming from la Pine, so he had about 90 minutes of driving time. An hour later, John, Stone joined the recovery, and both Chuck and John worked together.
They coordinated using our lobby back and forth and joined efforts together on this rescue. In the meantime, Ronald sent us some photos of his truck in the snow.
Once the volunteers had a solid plan, we kept Ronald informed. By 3:30 p.m., John Stone texted back, letting us know they were all safe and done with the recovery.
Another day, another recovery, and more importantly, another person who goes home safe thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers.
