Monday, August 19th, 2024, at 11:43 a.m. (ET), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in South Carolina. The requester, David Stewart, submitted the following information: “F250 stuck in power lines easy going getting to the truck. Need to be winched out. Have snatch blocks and etc. no winch. Can be with the vehicle in just a few minutes after a call. / I’m not with the vehicle“
David Mrak attended to the administration of this request, contacted David, confirmed the GPS coordinates, and verified the situation before sending the request to local volunteers within a 60-mile radius. Within seconds of submitting the request, we got Blake Todd, who was about 20 miles away, taking over the request, contacting the request, and getting ready for the recovery.
By 3:30 p.m., the recovery was completed, and later, Blake sent us some notes and photos.
From Blake:
I met with the person who requested the recovery, he then lead me to the area that the stuck vehicle was in. We had received several inches of rain the night before and the truck had gotten stuck a day or 2 prior they attempted to recover it previously. While rigging up the winch to the vehicle my truck also ended up breaking through the surface and I had to self recover.
We ended up having to anchor the rear of my f250 to a tree, as I did not have enough weight or traction to keep my truck from sliding, using a snatch block to double the pulling power. While pulling the stuck truck out, we ended up breaking what the owner of the vehicle said was a rated winch mount. The biggest tip learned of the day is to always be mindful of the pulling power, especially when doubling or tripling pulling power. And to always keep in mind winch safety, fortunately, especially with all synthetic components in the pull, that there was no rebound or damage caused besides the broken mount.
We want to thank Blake, awesome job! (offroad recovery in South Carolina)
