Its down an embankment

Its down an embankment

Monday, May 25th, 2026, at 11:44 a.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in Washington. The requester, Marcus Logan Maroni, submitted the following information: “Its a honda accord and it will need a winch as its down an embankment / I’m not with the vehicle / I can help cover the cost of fuel.”

Our administrator, Al Fontan, contacted the requester and verified the contact information provided, GPS location, and current situation before sending the request to local volunteers. In this particular recovery, we contacted volunteers within a 40-mile radius.

From the group of contact volunteers we had Sean Farrar marking himself as engaging and taking over the recovery and David Moore and Joseph Young marking themselves as standing by in case Sean needed extra help. Sean was about 45 miles away from this request. By 2 p.m. we had Sean on his way.

The recovery was set for around 3:00 p.m. and completed by 5:00 p.m. Sean later sent us a quick note and a few photos we share below.

From Sean

The recovery went well. The picture was misleading; it would have been better if there had been a road in the frame. The car was 100 feet down an 80-degree slope. The recovery ring and shackless system were crucial in making this a success. The brake failure was the cause, and the owner mentioned that they couldn’t afford a tow from this location. A passerby helped anchor the vehicle with theirs during a re-rig. I hope to get some images from another passerby who helped with traffic control and took pictures while I was working. Overall, it went smoothly as expected with a recovery of this type. The terrain was very steep, and there wasn’t much work space at the top.

We want to thank Sean for a great job. Those recoveries are not particularly easy to pull.
