Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at 9:31 a.m. (PT), we received a request for help with an offroad recovery in California. The requester, Bren Hewitt, submitted the following information: “My jeep wrangler JKU died on me in the cleveland national forest on north main divide about 2.5 miles north of maple springs. The suspected cause was a bad fuel pump. Unfortunately it was vandalized Thursday night. It’s can still be towed, however, fixing it and driving it out of its location is not an option anymore. I need help getting it down to the nearest pavement where I can have AAA tow it home. The nearest pavement being the bottom of maple springs trail. Towing services want outrageous sums of money that frankly I’m unable to give them. I have a tow bar, straps and hitch. Even a tow to where the trails begins to decend where I could attempt to slowly coast down, about a half mile away, would be welcome. Thank you. / I’m with the vehicle.”
We verified the contact information, GPS location, and situation before sending the request to local volunteers within a 20-mile radius.
Within 10 minutes of submitting the ticket, we got Kyle Phillips offering to help, marking himself as engaging, and by 10:07 a.m., contacting Bren to coordinate.
By 3:20 p.m., Kyle updated us on the lobby; he had finished the recovery 20 minutes before. Bren was out and safe. We didn’t get many more details about this request or photos other than the few submitted by Bren originally.
We want to thank Kyle for helping with this request. Awesome job.
