The request read: “My car is a 2018 Jeep Renegade 4×4 Sport. It is stitting on an offshoot of Otay Mountain Truck Trail. CV axle is busted and it is missing a camber bolt. It has been out there since Sunday afternoon. I was planning on going out on Thursday to do a field repair but was inquiring just in case. / I’m with the vehicle“
Our system received an offroad recovery request on Tuesday, March, 21st, 2023, at 6:35 a.m. Andrew Allaband, the owner had left the vehicle the previous week.
In this case our new administrator for South California handle the ticket and actually took care of the recovery. By 7:00 a.m., Randy Bennett was working on the ticket and later that afternoon he close the request and send us later these notes and photos.
From Randy: “That trail/mountain is extremely close to the border with Mexico, so our primary concern was actually theft/vandalism. We timed it just right and even though it was a stormy day, we planned/caught a 2 hour window of dry weather. He wasn’t stuck and was able to reassemble his suspension onsite, but the (FWD?) Jeep had blown out the driver side CV joint and couldn’t move under it’s own power so we had to get him off the ridge trail and then all the way down the mountain using just tow straps and gravity. Fortunately once we got to the fire road/truck trail it was 90% downhill. After that I was able to borrow a flatbed trailer and hauled his Jeep to a relative’s house ~30 miles away.“
