Wednesday, January 10th, 2024, at 3:48 p.m. (CT), we received a request for an offroad recovery in Mississippi submitted by Nicholas Wood. The description submitted included a brief description: “Red 2020 Jeep gladiator. Stuck in the mud off of Kelley’s crossing boat ramp at Autumn Drive. / I’m with the vehicle”.
We contacted Nicholas by 3:55 p.m., and after verifying his location and situation, we asked for a few photos.
A few minutes later, by 4:04 p.m., we submitted the request to local volunteers. In this area, we don’t have many volunteers, so we expanded the search to an 80-mile radius.
By 4:07 p.m. we had Todd Hadley offering to help. He was about 40 minutes away but willing to go help with some straps and his 4wd truck.
At 5:40 p.m., he updated our lobby with the following message: “I’m out here with him, but not sure I can get close enough to get him out.“, a few minutes later, we added: “I’m taking him to his campsite for now until we can put together a plan. Everyone is safe and dry, but we’ll need a couple hundred feet of line for me to reach him from the dry.“
By 7:40 p.m., a local volunteer, Brandon Conley from MSJ, made contact with Nicholas and was able to get him out.
We want to thank Todd and also Brandon for their help on this request. You guys rock.
We are always looking for more volunteers, If you would like to receive a text message when we get a request near you, create your account here: offroadportal.org/signup
