Sunday, 15th at 9:56 p.m. (EDT), we received a recovery request from Florida, where Dale Otterbacher got stuck in his 2WD Tacoma while driving some clay roads that at the time were completely dry. While he was driving a heavy thunderstorm went thru and turned the area into a muddy swamp in a matter of minutes.
A deputy was able to assist walk out and took him to a road for his wife to pick him up. He had to leave the truck behind. He was asking for somebody the following day to help him get the truck out.
We chatted briefly by text, verified his location and the situation, and submitted the tickets to volunteers in the area. No more than 20 minutes after submitting the ticket Jack Miles, was trying to contact Dale.
At 11:00 a.m. the next morning, Jack and Dale were already in route to do this recovery. By noon Jack arrived and updated our lobby, stating the extraction didn’t look too difficult. He then added on the notes took him, two winch outs to get the vehicle out. By 1:00 p.m., he got Dale out of the mud and back to safety.
At the end of the recovery, we chatted with both. Here is what Dale has to said: “Jack was a God send” and here is what Jack shared: “Dale was extremely grateful, he is a very nice guy, lot of history serving this country too. Glad I could help out!”
Thanks Jack you saved the day!
